Q: His medicines have been increased a few times, then switched to another etc, etc, etc. He is absolutely driving me crazy already (of course he don't know that). He's 11 and KNOWS IT ALL!! I thought that was the teenage years before I actually knew it all...:) He already has a few late papers, missing homework assignments, forgets to bring his agenda home w/ homework written in it, forgets his book to do his social studies in...yadda yadda yadda! This is the 3rd full week of school. He's in the 5th grade this year so things are going to be tougher and he needs to listen better. Like I said, we've tried a few different types of a.d.h.d. medicine but not sure they are really what we need. He is extremely angry at times when told to do something that he don't want to do, he will sit and mouth you to the end that he's right and your wrong. We are strict parents don't get me wrong, but in a loving way. My husband is a corrections officer so in all these years of work and specialized training DH has had, he learned how to communicate effectively.Well not too effectively with our own son, but with someone elses' son. Any tips, thoughts, advice you can give me. We have 3 children and he really disrupts our lives in general. Not to mention he is teaching his 3 yr old brother these behavioral issues. Can a form of childhood depression cause you to act out (at home but NOT at school), to forget things ALL the time, to flick his sister in the head just because he's walking by her? He is the sweetest thing one on one, but get him around others and he's one crazy little boy. LOL (but not really a laughing matter). If I were reading this right now written from someone else, I would probably think...geesh, what a brat...but honestly it's not like that. It's a mental issue I do believe and so do the doctors...but what we don't know. Wonder if it's a hormonal issue possibly? Any thoughts?? Thanks and sorry post is so long! Just thought I should add, he was professionally diagnosed by a child psychiatrist for ADHD. I guess if you don't personally know the child it would be hard for you to understand. This is what was given to me.. "Mental Health Problems" for children and adolescents refers to the range of all diagnosable emotional, behavioral, and mental disorders. They include depression, attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and anxiety, conduct, and eating disorders. Mental health problems affect one in every five young people at any given time. "Serious Emotional Disturbances" for children and adolescents refers to the above disorders when they severely disrupt daily functioning in home, school, or community. Serious emotional disturbances affect 1 in every 10 young people at any given time. My family is VERY disrupted, he cries or is angry all the time, and like I said..is very forgetful, almost like he zones out to people. That is why SOME cases can be a mental issue. My other 2 kids are ok.
A: You will need to incorporate more omega 3's into his diet and cut out all high fructose corn syrup and most sugars. Read up on it...I PROMISE you won't regret it.
