Q: my daughter has just turned 5 and she will be starting school next year was wanting some advice on how i can also prepare her for school, im probably just bein over protective! but i just want to know that she will be really ready for whats to come! pls could any one give me some advice! thankyou.
A: Start talking about how her day will be like in school and how much fun she'll have. Look for some books on going to school. 'Play' school with her. Get her a little backpack for her to carry around the house if she wants to. Make a big deal about her going to school! You can also start talking about what days she will go to school, such as she will go to school om Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday, but she wil be home on Sat and Sunday. Talk to her about that she'll need to get up a little earlier and that you'll set out her clothes for her. If she'll be riding the bus to school, talk about that. Make it sound fun. Talk to her about how she will be eating lunch at school and she will have lots of toys to play with. There will be nap time, and learning times. And all the friends she will have in class with her. Drive past her school and talk about that she will go there next year. Make the whole thing sound like fun! On a side note, also talk about how she will need to behave at school. That some of the same rules apply at school as well as at home. We have a book called 'The wheels on the bus' and it's about a school bus going to school. It's really cute. Scholastic makes it. I have two children in school (K &2nd) and two still at home. Good luck!
