Q: My son is a fun-loving kindergartener. He always looks forward to going to school. However in the last couple weeks since school has started I've noticed 2 things that I don't think are good. The teacher leads the kids off single file into the classroom while the teacher's aide is at the back. Twice she has left my child out in the coat area and only once came back for him. (watched this through the window) Why didn't she wait for him like the other kids? When my hubby asked his teacher how he was doing in class she didn't even look at him and just said "he's trying" and walked away. Is it just me or is something not right here? I feel very uneasy sending him to school now because it seems like they could care less.
A: I can't understand why a kindergarten teacher would do this. I would definitely ask her about it. You are just as important to the child's learning so the two of you should work as a team. Charging like a bull certainly doesn't get you anywhere and will only cause that bond to break. If the teacher does not have an adequate explanation, then your next best bet would be to contact the principal. It is your right as a parent to stand up for your little one's rights. However, it is your child's first year of school... there will be many more things I'm sure that will "pop up" that you're uncomfortable with. As long as you go about it in a professional/concerned and dignified way, you can't go wrong! Good luck to you and your son! :)
