Q: My baby is only 5 days old and has had a yellow discharge coming from her eyes whenever she wakes up. Could she already have an eye infection or is this normal?
A: My son had that also. It looks bad and sometimes when he woke up it was soo goopy he couldn't open his eyes! It was a clogged tear duct and the doc told me to massage the corner of his eyes near the bridge of his nose down with either my finger or a q tip. I found, what also helped was to get a warm wash cloth and hold it over his eyes for a moment and then wipe away the crusties. she'll be mad b/c of the cloth over her eyes but she'll get over it. I'd still call the doc just in case. It could be infected? Make sure it's not red or inflamed. Good Luck.
