breastfed baby has green poop?

Q: my daughter is 7 weeks, yesterday she pooped 7 times in 5 hours (all normal) she had such bad gas & tummy pains i gave her mylocin. the next morning her poop was green, was it cuz of the drops or something i ate? is it normal for breastfed babies to have green poop? could she get dehydrated? do i give her a little water?

A: She's not getting enough hind milk! The green is from bile salts, made from broken down hemoglobin to help in the absorption of fats. Hind milk is rich in fats - it's the cream of your milk. Don't give her water, but perhaps allow her to nurse only one side each time you nurse. And cut out too much milk for now, she may be getting too much lactose - she makes enough lactase to digest the sugar lactose but she may be getting too much from your milk.
