A: You're supposed to wait at least 6 weeks (or until doctor gives you the ok). Your body is still healing internally and you at at high risk for infection, even if you're feeling good enough to have sex. If you've seen women with postpartum infections, you'd never risk it. Many women find it too uncomfortable that early especially if you had an epis or a laceration that required sutures. I waited about 3 months after my first delivery, and it was very uncomfortable for the first 6 months, even with plenty of lubrication and taking it easy. So there is no normal amount of time, other than make sure you wait 6 weeks to let your body heal.
